Buncombe County Family Justice Center

  • This is where people impacted by domestic or sexual violence can access help from many different agencies. Agencies include Our Voice, Mission Health, Mountain Child Advocacy Center, Helpmate, The Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Buncombe County Health and Human Services, Pisgah Legal Services, Asheville Police, and the YWCA.

Helpmate

  • Helpmate is a domestic violence agency in Asheville.
  • Helpmate provides free emergency shelter, counseling, and support for individuals and their children.
  • Helpmate serves men and women.
  • Services are free and confidential, and include:
    • 24-hour hotline: 828-254-0516
    • Individual and group counseling
    • Help building a safe, stable future
    • Court advocacy
    • Training of professionals and community leaders
    • Preventive education for at-risk groups, including youth groups

 

Our Voice

  • Our Voice serves individuals in Buncombe County affected by sexual assault and abuse, through counseling, advocacy, and education

    • Advocates can speak with you on the hotline. Advocates can go over options and/or meet you at a hospital emergency department or police station, 24 hours a day.

  • What to do
    • Get to a safe place.
    • Contact someone you trust and who can help you.
    • Seek medical attention.
    • Reporting options include: Not reporting, anonymously reporting (not available everywhere), and reporting to law enforcement.
